What is Metaphysics?

The term "Metaphysics" is composed of two words. "meta" meaning "of higher order or level," and "physics" meaning "the science of matter and energy and their interactions." Simply stated, "Metaphysics is a higher order of matter and energy."

Metaphysics is also considered a Philosophy. The term "Philisophy" is also composed of two words. "philo" meaning "love," and "sophia " meaning "wisdom."

Therefore, we can define the study of Metaphysics as "the desire for a higher knowledge of what is beyond the physical." Or as we would prefer to think of it as "The Philosophical Study of Being and Knowing."

The Masters

This site is dedicated to the Masters of higher knowledge, both past and present, who have understood ancient gnosis or the "intuitive knowledge of spiritual truths." The Masters not only understood but lived the laws of higher principles and co-creation with the universe. They were fully aware that we are called upon to extend ourselves in extraordinary ways of being in order to “know thy Self.”

The Masters were grounded in the union of mysticism, gnosis, magic, manifestation, and hermetic or alchemical philosophy. These union's revealed certain truths by living the experiences and practicing the principles learned in the course of their every day life. They learned to go forward with discretion between the worlds of Darkness and of Light. They proceeded with the awareness that "truth" could only be found by walking through the Darkness. That was the only spiritual alchemy! The result was that through individual stages of transformation and enlightenment, they each found their "Philosopher’s Stone." In other words, "Being and Knowing!"

The Masters realized that by keeping these higher principles alive, they would be preserving a knowledge which had its foundation cemented in "truth." Through intellect, will, and knowledge, they left behind their ancient and metaphysical philosophies for us to begin our own mystical union and journey. Together, with them as our guides, we too may begin the “Great Work” to ascend from the world of Darkness into the world of Light.

With this in mind, we will strive to bring this wonderful wisdom forward. Here, we will study the Philosophy of Religion, which focuses on the belief in a Divine and Supernatural Power. We will also study the Philosophies of the Mind, the Stars, the Spirit, the Soul, Ancient Metaphysics, Mythology, Divination, and Wellness.

Ethics, Morals, Right Conduct and Action

In addition to the above, it is the goal of The Metaphysical Society to introduce approaches and issues in the fundamental areas of Philosophy. These areas include topics such as Ethics, Morals, Right Conduct and Action.

The key to understanding ethics and morals is found in the "concept of values." These are to be found in the study of Metaphysics, which restated, is the philosophical study of "Being and Knowing."

Subsequent to Metaphysics is Epistemology. Epistemology is the philosophical study of the "theory of knowledge."

These two fields of study give rise to Ontology. Ontology is the study of the nature of "being and existence."

This further paves the way for Existentialism. Existentialism concentrates on the idea that we, as a society, are responsible for what we make of ourselves.

Hence, it is often emphasized in philosophical circles that ethics and morals are based on the laws of Metaphysics.

A Web of Wisdom

As stated, our goal for The Metaphysical Society is to become a “Web of Wisdom" that entails “many minds…yet one thought.”

Through discipline and transcendence may we each find our own "Philosopher's Stone" and know Thyself!
